Investigative reporter. Data journalist.

Emily Hoerner is an investigative reporter at Injustice Watch. She digs into topics related to criminal justice with a team of reporters to produce stories for the online news organization's website. Emily has reported and written about the impact of police stops on minority communities, Cook County's bond court system, judicial elections, parole and juvenile offenders sentenced to serve de facto life sentences in Illinois.
Before joining Injustice Watch in October 2015 Emily graduated of Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism graduate program. She takes care to produce stories catered to her audience. She understands how important visuals are to storytelling and frequently tries to incorporate multimedia into her stories in the form of photos, audio, interactive graphics and video.
Emily enjoys using data as a way to find new, interesting stories that aren't being told. She hopes to continue working on investigative, data-driven journalism throughout her career.
